The Curaçao American Preparatory School
CAPS is an accredited, K3 – Grade 12 private, non-profit, English-speaking school on the island of Curacao.
Last Friday was a roaring success!! Thank you to all of the CAPS parents, friends and family who came to support the artistic talents of our students. We are very proud of what all of the students have achieved. 🥰
We are sharing a sneak peek of our student art gallery from when the K3 students came to visit today. Students from all grade levels have been stopping by all week to see the amazing artistic talents of our students guided by our awesome art teacher Ms. Gillisa Hart. Tomorrow (Friday, May 29th) parents are invited to visit the art gallery, as well as our end of year musical showcase. It will be an exciting collaboration of our visual and performing arts programs here at CAPS – thank you Mr. Steve T. Stay tuned for more pictures and videos of the event in the coming days……
Our 10th grade US History class recently visited the Fundashon Museo Tula at the beautiful Landhuis Knip. They have been learning about the history of slavery in the United States and took the opportunity to compare that with the history of slavery here in Curacao, including a focus on slaves who lead uprisings in both places. Their guide was fantastic and the students appreciated making the connections between their classroom learning and the real world.
Students at CAPS have been up to exciting things as usual. We are very proud of one of our middle school students, Ginevra Taylor, who has been shortlisted for the Oxford Writer’s House Peregrine Prize for Young Writers with her short story "To Joust". With citizenship and community at the forefront of their minds, our 3rd and 4th grade students have been reading to earn stars in Reading A to Z (RAZ Plus). They could donate these "stars" to schools without libraries in under-developed countries to help them get supplies. 6th grade students acted as advisers to the President of the United States while trying to solve the Cuban Missile Crisis, and many of our high school students have been busy these past weeks taking their Advanced Placement exams in subjects ranging from Physics to English Literature and Calculus. We are so proud of all of the continued achievements of our entire student body.
Our hearts are full!!🥰Students and parents have truly spoiled us with delicious and considerate treats throughout the week. We have been sent many thoughtful and appreciative emails, and received cards, hugs and many kind words of thanks. We can genuinely say that it makes all of the hard work worth it. This has been a special week at school, filled with gratitude and love. CAPS truly appreciates our community and we are so grateful that you are all a part of it. 🩷
