Mr. Jonny, our new art teacher, engages students by providing choice, which ignites students’ passion. Last month, grade 8 – high school demonstrated how powerful this method of instruction can be.
Students were asked to choose one period from western art history that enticed them the most. Each student had to explain the period in a paper and create a work inspired by the period. Mr. Jonny was thrilled by the results! He said, “[the] students went above and beyond to create works that pushed their abilities. They accurately portrayed their chosen period.”
When the students finished, they presented their work for an open critique in class. Students had to explain their process and were given feedback from their classmates. Enjoy the results!
