The Big Day
On February 24, 2021, the first through third graders had a special visit from one of their favorite authors, Josh Funk. It was the first virtual author visit our school has had and the kids were amazing!
The Lead Up
Leading up to the big day, Ms. Jessica, Ms. Christine, Ms. Surina, Ms. Michale, and Ms. Katherine read and shared many of Josh Funk’s books. There are so many! Check them out here.
“My favorite book is Pirasaurs, but the funniest book is Lady Pancake and Sir French Toast!” Kayden, grade 1.
“Short and Sweet is my favorite because it’s so creative.” Casey, grade 3.
“My favorite book is It’s Not Hansel and Gretel because the book is funny and he makes the characters seem life-like.” Amara, grade 2.
On the Day
On the actual day, all three classes hijacked Ms. Lorie’s room since it has the best set up for a virtual meeting. It’s okay, Ms. Lorie didn’t mind, because we let her stay and participate. Mr. Funk read aloud a story that we didn’t have here at CAPS, Lady Pancake and Sir French Toast Short and Sweet. The kids laughed along with the book and they even got to see a book that is in the works. After he read, a few students from each class asked him a question – they were great questions. I was really impressed with the types of questions the students asked. Mr. Funk answered each one and made us laugh the whole time!
“He was so funny and I like how he read the story to us.” Lily, grade 3.
“The best part of the visit was when he gave us a sneak peek at a new book.” Mexx, grade 2.
